Sock Industry Average Lead-time
You may find most custom-sock vendors or providers claim that the production requires 1-2 months and the air delivery takes another 2 weeks. This is due to the fact that they outsource for socks production and the factory who finally manufacture the branded socks works in old fashion way (basically, poor-managed factory).
For those who really own a precisely-managed sock production line and has all colors of yarn in stock, sock production can be really quick – Just like SockCustom.
General Lead Time at SockCustom
Well if we are not talking about rush order, our general lead-time is 3-4 weeks. The branded socks will be produced following these steps:
- Sock Design: Simply send us your logo and we will help make a inspiring logo sock design for you.
- Matching yarn colors: As previously discuss in an earlier post, we have over 500 colors of combed cotton yarn in stock and will match your colors as close as possible. I read from SockClub|Custom that they only offer like 15 colors, which really limits the usage of colorful sock designs.
- Make a real sock sample: By choosing a right knitting machine (depending on the design complexity and functional requirement), usually we use 176N or 188N-stitch sock knitting machine for logo socks. Our machines use cutting-edge technology which can do seamless toe automatically. So customers won’t see a thick-hard sewing line in the toe. Our workers will tune the machine until the sock sample is approved by our designer&sales representative. This can take 2-3 days.
- Bulk production of branded socks: Once the sample sock is approved, we move forward into bulk production. Machines stops automatically when a required number of socks are produced. The bulk production can take as soon as 1 days to complete for small orders. Usually 2-3 days for orders in several hundreds.
- Boarding of custom socks: Upon knit the socks are not in perfect shape. We need boarding process under high pressure and temperature. In this step we not only make the sock in good shape, but also make the sock clean, soft and healthy. This usually takes 1-2 days.
- Custom packaging & Final quality check: We then do custom packaging. All labels have been previously printed to save time. Now we have all the header tags and socks and our workers will start check quality of each pair and then do the packaing. 1-2 days for small orders.
- Air delivery. We send out the cartons to you with FedEx, UPS or DHL depending on your country. This usually takes 4-8 days. Frankly speaking air delivery is the only thing out of control. So when we say rush order in 2 weeks, we count 8 days for air delivery–Just to be on safe side. We don’t want to over-compromise.
